Tom Piggott and Reilly Shanahan have both been invited to join the Home Nations Talent Programme for Wales. This is based upon the big improvements they both made over the last season in their training commitments and racing performances. They will now receive additional support from the Welsh ASA Disability team in the pursuit of their future goals to realise their full potential. Congratulations to both boys.
Reilly Shanahan and Ffion Butler were both selected to represent the Wales team in this year’s UK Games. These games are for athletes across a range of sports and are to meant to replicate a major multi-sport event to give them experience in an event of this nature with, 8 teams making up the events from the 4 areas of England, 2 areas of Scotland plus Welsh and Irish teams. Reilly swam 3 races, equalling his recently set PBs in 2 of them and posting a new best time in the 3rd. Ffion also swam 3 events posting sizeable new best times in all 3 and winning Silver in the 50m Free and 100m Back plus Bronze in the 100m Fly. Well done to both!
Could all swimmers who won trophies last year please engrave them and return to Lawson or Claire Goodall as soon as possible. Thanks.
Details are now available for the Shrewsbury Club Championships being held on 26th, 27th and 28th September.
Forms are to be returned to Danny, Judith, or Neil by Thursday 11th September. Entry forms cannot be accepted after this date.
Please ensure all trophies won at last year’s club championships have been engraved and are returned to Lawson Goodall as soon as possible and at the latest, at the Club Championships. This is to ensure that they are ready to be handed out to the new recipients at the club presentation evening later in the year.
SASC members Reilly Shanahan, Ffion Butler and Tom Piggott all qualified and travelled up to Glasgow to compete in the biggest domestic Disability event of this season. Alongside the cream of British Para-swimming talent, there were also teams from The Netherlands, Spain, USA and various others competing over the 4 day meet. Day 1 saw all 3 of our swimmers race in the 100m Free with Tom and Reilly setting strong new PB times in their heat swims, while Ffion’s time was just outside her best but qualified her for the GB final in the evening session, where she went more than 1 second faster than her heat swim and was also a new best time. Also on the first day, Ffion raced in the 100m Breast posting a time slightly outside her PB. Events on day 2 for Ffion and Tom were the 50 Free and 200 IM. Both swimmers set new best times in the 50m Free with Ffion qualifying for the Youth(16/under) final in the evening and they both then backed that up by posting new best times in the 200m IM. First event of day 3 was the 100m Back in which all 3 were racing. Both Reilly and Tom set new long course best times, with Ffion being just outside hers. Second event of the day for Ffion and Tom was the 100m Fly where they both performed solid races, with Ffion qualifying for the Youth final in the evening. In the final she went over 2 seconds faster to record a new best time. The 4th and final day of the meet had the distance 400m Free event for both Tom and Ffion. Ffion finished her 7 event programme for the meet with a respectable and even pace race, just outside her PB. Tom finished his meet with another solid swim and another long course PB. Across the 4 day meet they all had some great swims in a very high calibre meet against several top international para-swimmers.
Well done to all 3 of them!
