Hereford Open Meet November 2012 – Coach’s Report

SHREWSBURY SWIMMING CLUB: TOP CLUB!!!!!!!

Where to start!!!  Shrewsbury swimmers really took the Hereford Open Meet by storm this year with the best overall performance the club has had at an Open for several years, resulting in us winning overall top club.  So many highlights and pb smashing performances that it is very hard to single swimmers out.

The stats:

Over 150 pbs set/smashed!!

55 Gold, 42 Silver, 31 Bronze Medals

19 New Midland Qualifying times

Huge number of new County Times gained

The excellent swims began right from the beginning in the 200m Breast, with 9yr old Amy Watton gaining her first County time, Sophia Motala-Evans winning her first of a massive 7 Golds and Ellie Sykes tearing up the final heat to set the fastest time and gain another Midland Time.  The boys 50 Fly was next, with the club earning 6 more medals including Gold from William Carter and a new Midland time from Will Slawson.  I would love to name all of the excellent swims but this report would go on for days!!

Other new County Champs qualifiers were Grace Shorrock, Sophia Motala-Evans, Amy Watton, Ella Martindale, while many other swimmers qualified on their weaker events.  Midland times were achieved by Lucy Fairbanks, Ellie, Tom Sykes, Stan Hau, Will Slawson, and Issy.  To really cap off the excellent weekend top girl/boy trophies were won by Sophia (9yrs), Gemma Hughes (10yrs), Lucy F (13yrs), Claire Beddow (16/over) and Will S (15yrs).  Finally to round the report off, the team spirit amongst the swimmers and from the travelling support was unbelievable, so much so that the polite lady on the mic paid tribute to us all as a team!!!!  Awesome show guys, massive well done to you all!!!
