Ffion Butler, Reilly Shanahan, Porsha Jones and Tom Piggott were the SASC representatives at this season’s Para-Swimming International meet, which doubled up as the Rio Paralympic Trials. This meant the standard of competition would be the highest for the whole season, will all competitors chasing PB swims or Rio qualifying times. Each day had all the heats in the morning, with the top 20 or 30 swimmers based on Para-Swimming points qualifying for the finals in the evening on the same day.

Day 1 began with the 100m Freestyle with Porsha setting a new PB, while Ffion was off her best but qualified for the evenings final where she would swim half a second faster. Reilly smashed his LC best time to score over 400 points for the first time in the event, while Tom equalled his best time to make it through to the finals, where he would set a new best time and go over 500 points. Porsha and Tom also both had the 100m Breast, where Porsha equalled her best time on her weaker stroke, while Tom was just outside his.

Day 2 continued on the same vein of form with Reilly, Porsha and Ffion setting new best times in the heats and Tom and Ffion making the finals later in the day. In the final, Tom was slightly slower but still around his best time, while Ffion 2seconds faster to go over the 600 point mark for the first time. Day 3 was the 100 Fly, with just of ours competing. Ffion was outside her PB in the heat but still made the final where she swam a similar time to finish an extremely creditable 8th overall. Tom was on PB in his heat to make the final where he went 2secons quicker to set a new best time.

Day 4 was the distance event, the 400 Free with all but Ffion racing. Porsha had a storming swim from the outside Lane 0 to smash her PB in her heat. Reilly also set a massive best time to make the final in the evening, and Tom also set a new PB in his heat en-route to the final. Both boys would swim just outside these newly set best times in the evening finals.

Day 5 was the last day of competition with the 50m Freestyle and 200m IM events. Porsha had a strong swim and hit a new PB in the 50 free before another excellent impressive swim to take her heat by storm in the IM and another massive best time. Ffion was on her best time in the 50Free heat before breaking the 33s barrier for the first time to record another PB later in the final for nearly 700 points. Reilly recorded a new PB in the 50 free and again later in the 200m IM, while Tom was just outside his 50Free best before he equalled his IM PB. He later made the final for the IM. Across the 5 days of racing, our 4 swimmers were completely professional and deserved all of their success in Glasgow.

A great show and great representation for the club, awesome effort guys!!!!
