The Energize Awards recognise people that take part, work and volunteer in sport and physical activity across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
The awards celebrate achievement in the field of sport and physical activity across the county. They recognise those people, organisations and groups who have gone out of their way to contribute to the promotion of sport and physical activity.
This year, Shrewsbury has had three nominations shortlisted for awards. They are:
· Coach of the Year – Danny Malcolm
· Young Volunteer of the Year – Amy Carter
· Community Club of the Year
The awards evening will take place on the 7th of November 2013 when we will find out the results.
Good luck to all the nominees and many thanks to Judith for her work in putting them forward for the awards.
Congratulations to Stuart Highfield on receiving an award from West Midlands Swimming recognising his contribution to ‘Officials Development’ and Volunteering over several years.
Stuart has been volunteering for more than 20 years. In that time he has been a Timekeeper, a Starter, a Judge and is now a Referee. Stuart trains new officials all over the West Midlands as well as training Team Managers.
Stuart is currently President of Shrewsbury Amateur Swimming Club and has previously been President of Shropshire ASA. Well done on your award.
Details are now available for the club championships being held on 27th, 28th and 29th September.
Forms are to be returned to Danny, Judith, Neil or Catherine by 20th September. Entry forms cannot be accepted after this date.
Saturday 6th April 2013
Apologies to anyone that was not aware, further to the cancellation of this event, all cheques that had been submitted were subsequently destroyed.
At 9:30 am on Saturday 13th July 2013 swimmers from SASC will be starting a 24 hour swim at the Quarry Swimming Centre in Shrewsbury.
The event is being held, primarily to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Please click here to read the letter that has been given out to all swimmers detailing the swim and how you can be involved in raising funds and making sure the event runs smoothly.
Many thanks to Shrewsbury Community Leisure Trust for donating the pool time free of charge.
Please get involved with this worthy cause – chaperoning, making cakes, counting laps etc. The more help offered, the better the event will be!
Shrewsbury Swimming Club is holding its AGM on Friday 14th June 2013. All parents are welcome, and encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity to join the other members of the committee and have your say on how the club is run.
There are a number of vacancies on the committee this year with some long-serving members standing down. To nominate yourself or someone else, with their permission, please send your details, the post you are interested in and the names of the proposer and seconder (must be current committee members) to email@example.com. If you do not know 2 committee members, please indicate your interest anyway, as all help is welcomed.
The full AGM notice is attached here with all the details.
Even if you don’t want to take on a role, please come to the AGM and show your support. The club relies on people regularly giving some of their time to keep it successful and also to keep fees down as much as possible.
At 9.30am on Saturday 13th July 2013 swimmers from SASC will be starting a 24 hour swim at The Quarry Swimming Centre, Shrewsbury.
Swimming will take place downstairs in the Priory Pool. Shrewsbury Community Leisure Trust (SCLT) have kindly donated the pool time free of charge.
The event is being held primarily to raise funds for Cancer Research. There will also be some funds raised for the club.
There will be designated pool time for all swimmers; development squad, competitive squads, masters and parents.
Obviously such an event will need a lot of help from chaperones, publicity, fundraising, to lap counters!
A fundraising page has been registered and can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/SASC24hrswim/
All offers of assistance will be gratefully received no matter how small. Please contact Dawn Horswood at firstname.lastname@example.org or speak to her directly at the swimming baths and find out how you will play your part.
A reminder to all A squad and B squad swimmers that your land training session is on a Thursday after your hour in the pool.
It is a great opportunity to improve your strength, flexibility and overall fitness to make you an even better swimmer.
Now that the clocks have changed we are able to go outside and use the Quarry for shuttle runs, circuits, team work and games.
Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear (running shoes) and that you are dressed for the weather (it is quite chilly out there at the moment even in the sun).
If you have any questions then please speak to Danny or Ian Latham.
