Details are now available for the Shrewsbury Club Championships being held on 26th, 27th and 28th September.
Forms are to be returned to Danny, Judith, or Neil by Thursday 11th September. Entry forms cannot be accepted after this date.
Please ensure all trophies won at last year’s club championships have been engraved and are returned to Lawson Goodall as soon as possible and at the latest, at the Club Championships. This is to ensure that they are ready to be handed out to the new recipients at the club presentation evening later in the year.
Shrewsbury Swimming Club is holding its AGM on Friday 27th June 2014. All parents are welcome, and encouraged to attend. This is an opportunity to join the other members of the committee and have your say on how the club is run.
There are a number of vacancies on the committee this year with some long-serving members standing down. To nominate yourself or someone else, with their permission, please send your details, the post you are interested in and the names of the proposer and seconder (must be current committee members) to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you do not know 2 committee members, please indicate your interest anyway, as all help is welcomed.
The full AGM notice is attached here with all the details.
Even if you don’t want to take on a role, please come to the AGM and show your support. The club relies on people regularly giving some of their time to keep it successful and also to keep fees down as much as possible.
Attached are the results for the December 2013 Open Meet. The afternoon results have been amended slightly as one of the swimmer’s names was incorrect.
Some excellent swims. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to all the volunteers and officials without who’s help we could not have held the event.
The Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin Energize Awards evening was held on Thursday 7th November 2013 at Shrewsbury Town Football club. Following Judith Lester’s excellent work in nominating Shrewsbury Swimming Club, Danny Malcolm and Amy Carter for Community Club of the Year, Coach of the Year and Young Volunteer of the year respectivley, we came away with two winners: Community Club and Young Volunteer
Shrewsbury Swimming Club’s nomination read:
Shrewsbury Amateur Swimming Club has Swim 21 status and delivers swimming coaching to young people and adults. Over the last 5 years under the guidance of a new Head Coach and committee a clear, long-term development plan has been produced and the Club has gone from strength to strength.
The club caters for competitive of swimmers and those that just want to swim for fitness. There are special sessions for young people encouraging them to stay in the sport through the difficult teenage years. They are also offered the chance to gain recognised qualifications and volunteer with the club, gaining skills for employment.
In 2012 one of their swimmers, Gemma Almond, represented Great Britain at the Paralympics. As she came up through the ranks, SASC and the Head Coach were noticed by Swim Wales and the GB disability Coaches. Consequently SASC is a signpost club for disability swimmers from Mid Wales.
And Amy’s nomination was:
18 year old Amy has been volunteering for Shrewsbury Amateur Swimming Club for four years and in that time she has given over 500 hours of her time. She helps to coach the younger squad members and gives up weekends to team manage at junior galas.
For the last 2 years Amy has been the Club Captain. She has helped to organise fun nights for the swimmers, a 24 hour swim for charity and she is also the link between the swimmers, the committee and the Coach.
Amy has taken various courses to improve her ability to help other swimmers – both novices and those wanting to compete. Alongside her volunteering Amy has completed GCSEs and A levels, and works part time as a lifeguard.
Well done to both winners and commiserations to Danny who was up against some tough competition. Photos of the winners appeared in the shropshire Star and can be seen at: http://www.shropshirestar.com/news/2013/11/08/shropshires-sporting-stars-honoured-at-energize-awards/.
A full list of all the nominees can be seen on Energize’s website at http://www.energizeawards.co.uk/
Many thanks to Judith as, without her nominations, we would not have had any winners!
The results for Friday, Saturday and Sunday’s Club Championship races are now available by clicking on the link below. They will also be posted on the club noticeboard at the Quarry Swimming and Fitness Centre.
The Energize Awards recognise people that take part, work and volunteer in sport and physical activity across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.
The awards celebrate achievement in the field of sport and physical activity across the county. They recognise those people, organisations and groups who have gone out of their way to contribute to the promotion of sport and physical activity.
This year, Shrewsbury has had three nominations shortlisted for awards. They are:
· Coach of the Year – Danny Malcolm
· Young Volunteer of the Year – Amy Carter
· Community Club of the Year
The awards evening will take place on the 7th of November 2013 when we will find out the results.
Good luck to all the nominees and many thanks to Judith for her work in putting them forward for the awards.
