SHREWSBURY LEARN TO SWIM

We are Swim 21 accredited and club mark accredited club. All lessons are taught by ASA qualified teachers, many of whom swim at County, Midland or National standard.


Higher level groups are taught by Shrewsbury ASC Competitive Squad coaches.



Group sizes are kept small to aid progression

Lessons are taught to the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (2007) plus Kelloggs Rainbow Distance Awards.

 

 
    Lessons are available every week day during term time;
 
  Monday 4-6pm,  
  Tuesday 5-6pm,  
  Wednesday 5-7pm,  
  Thursday 4-6pm,  
  Friday 4-5.30pm.  
 

Standard lessons– 30minutes (Sharks + Dolphins 45minutes)

Ducklings 1,2 &3 NTPS Level 1

Developing basic safety awareness, introducing the ‘class’ scenario, basic movement skills and water confidence skills.


 

Ducks 4 & 5  NTPS Level 2

Developing safe entries to the water, including jumping in, basic floating, travel on the front and back up to a distance of 5 metres, plus rotation to regain upright positions.


 

Starfish 1 & 2 NPTS Level 3

Developing safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, progressive rotation skills and water safety knowledge.


 

Starfish 3 & 4 NPTS Level 4

Developing the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes, and swimming 10 metres to a given standard as directed by the ASA.


 

Squid NPTS Level 5

Developing ‘watermanship’ through sculling and treading water skills and complete rotation, also performing all strokes for 10 metres to a given standard directed by the ASA.


 

Turtles NPTS Level 6

Developing effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing across all strokes plus swimming a distance of 25 metres; developing the water safety awareness.


 

Dolphins NPTS Level 7

Developing quality stroke technique up to 100 metres, incorporating skills learnt and combining them to develop a linked routine and complete successfully an obstacle course .


 

Sharks Challenge Awards and Pre Competitive Development

Pupils are challenged to achieve targets using a wide range of skills. Stamina is important as is technical quality of the strokes. The main emphasis is on the development of underpinning skills and effective technique including starts and turns.
